2024 Music Man Axis Super Sport
This is a USA made Music Man guitar which has heritage with Eddie Van Halen and his Wolfgang guitar shape. It's made with beautiful woods, flamed maple neck and top in a Macha Green Flame finish topped onto a Basswood body with a traditional 2 point tremolo system.
This was the result of a visit to the used section at GuitarGuitar Edinburgh and I was impressed even playing through a Boss Katana combo - which is actually a decent amplifier to get an idea of the sound of a guitar.
I loved the neck shape and the compact feel of the body shape.

Playing it at home, I found it sounded a bit dull and muddy through the amps I play through at home. Really great with gain but it didn't clean up well and sounded lifeless when played clean.
I measure the bridge pickup, which is a exclusive DiMarzio model, at a whopping 17k ohms and the neck at 14k ohms which by all measure is pretty hot!
I persevered for a bit but I wasn't enjoying playing it with the congested middly punch these pickups have, so bought a set of Bare Knuckle Holy Diver pickups in reverse zebra with the short leg direct mounting option and also in the 4 conductor wiring format like the original.
So quite Stratty in the 2 & 4 positions and full fat Humbucker in 1,3 & 5.
