2023 Collings CJ45 AT

Made by Collings in Austin Texas, this is a premium slope shouldered J45 style guitar but made to way higher standards than Gibson. An Adirondack top is an upgrade to the standard version and I played this standard at GuitarGuitar and it cost a bomb!

I was watching this one on Reverb and the seller reduced the price and I pounced.

A beautiful guitar and as mint as you get from the seller. Cleaner than the one for sale in the shop and probably half the price given it is the upgraded version.

Beautiful mahogany back and sides and a great sunburst. It even has a subtly flamed mahogany neck.

It's light and really well made. Big neck too!

A big neck but very comfortable too. Big doesn't mean uncomfortable really and the Collings neck feels great. Not tiring at all.

The specs below are for the standard T but the upgraded top is Adirondack Spruce hence AT..

I tried loads of Gibson J45 both Banner models and standard and they didn't have any magic but this Collings does. The CJ45 T looks to replicate the slope shouldered sound of the 1930's and 1940's Gibson models and according to Collings:

  • Our CJ-45 T is our Traditional build with a fundamental-focused tone featuring Honduran mahogany back and sides, non-grained ivoroid body binding with no purfling, no binding on the fingerboard and peghead, a fully-exposed rosette, East Indian rosewood fingerboard with ebony straight bridge, shorter 24 7/8″ scale length, and Wartime scalloped X-bracing.

Watch my demo below in 1080p if possible. This guitar prompted me to do some selling videos: Keep or Sell?

I am thinking about selling a few so will update the website as soon as I finally decide.
